How to date WTAPS (the season code)
What does the WTAPS care-tag code mean — and is my piece really from 1996?
The most legible dating layer in the Ura-Hara canon: YYSS on the care tag ('21AW' = Autumn/Winter 2021) — community-decoded, never officially published. The NATO phonetic sizes (Lima, Sierra), the 1996-not-1997 founding correction, FPAR vs WTAPS marks, and the 3M tell on the New Balance fakes.

THE SEASON CODE (community-decoded — no official cipher was ever published, flag it): care tags carry YYSS — '21AW' = Autumn/Winter 2021, '08SS' = Spring/Summer 2008. Universally read by the collector market; the most legible dating layer in the Ura-Hara canon.

Sizing speaks NATO phonetic: Lima = Large, Sierra = Small. A listing that doesn't speak the house language deserves a second read.

Founding-year guard: WTAPS = 1996 (Heddels, Sabukaru, sivasdescalzo, Hypebeast, HBX all agree); Highsnobiety's '1997' is an error sellers repeat. FPAR (Forty Percents Against Rights) = 1993, Nishiyama with SK8THING — FPAR marks are not WTAPS marks.

Collab authentication is partner-first: on WTAPS × New Balance the fakes fail the 3M reflectivity first, and the W)TAPS parenthesis typography is precision the reps miss (community/Reddit, flagged). The Vans Syndicate record starts 2006 (crossbones); the Sk8-Hi 'Crossbones' is community-dated 2007.
