How to date NEIGHBORHOOD

1. 01

   No published tag-dating guide exists for NEIGHBORHOOD. Made-in-Japan is the production constant across the record — necessary, never sufficient. Provenance and construction carry the dating.

   The era's design language is a sanity check: the 90s house was blacked-out, skull-adorned dark Americana (the deliberate anti-BAPE inverse). Loud colors claiming early dates deserve suspicion.

   The collab canon is the datable spine — Supreme's own archive dates the collaborations to the week: first collab December 2006 (selvedge denim, baseball jackets, the skull-and-bones box logo tee); second 2007 (M-65s, stadium jackets, the Larry Clark photo tee, 'Troops of Tomorrow' Vans). Collab pieces authenticate against the PARTNER's standards first.

   Sneaker dating caution: the blacked-out skull adidas Superstar is dated 2004 by Highsnobiety (SINGLE source; the anniversary Superstar program is commonly placed 2005) — don't let a seller state either year as settled.

   The brotherhood is provenance context: Tetsu Nishiyama (WTAPS) designed about half of early NEIGHBORHOOD (his own account, official WTAPS blog), and only three formal NBHD × WTAPS collabs exist in 25 years — the 2019 anniversary capsule is the third. A claimed 'NBHD × WTAPS' piece outside the three is a red flag.

Two sources or it ships as rumor. Where a tell is collector-lore rather than a museum fact, the tell says so — weight it with construction and provenance, never alone.
