The origin wound
Lang taught himself construction in a Vienna boutique, invented designer denim by pricing jeans at $200 before anyone else dared, then moved his shows from Paris to New York in 1998 and upended the calendar. In 2004 he sold to Prada; in 2005 he simply left — no farewell show, no interview — and became a visual artist. The wound is the disappearance; the collection is the only proof he was there.
