Raf Simons

Why it matters

Simons appropriated corporate logos — PlayStation 2, Canon, Sun Bank — and printed them onto garments alongside words like 'membership' and 'resisted,' creating a prophetic commentary on consumerism and media saturation that reads as more urgent today than it did in 2003. The white bomber bearing Ashley Bickerton's self-portrait and the harness vests with camping pouches are among the most intellectually dense garments in the archive. The collection established the vocabulary of 'critique-as-product' that has since been diluted by countless imitators.
